Darius woke up early with basketball on his brain, shooting little jump shots with a sock into the hamper again. “Today I’m going OFF,” he said, feeling extra nice. He even practiced his victory pose in the mirror twice.
He laced up both sneakers and pulled his jersey on, bounced the ball through the hallway till somebody yelled, “Come on!” Darius grinned. “I’m ready. Y’all about to see.” In his seven-year-old mind, he was already MVP.
